History
The 1974 TA22 Celica I purchased was my first real foray into the world of vehicle restoration. The Celica gave me a great introduction into car restoration as prior to having it, I had only really been involved in the cleaning/ detailing side of things. When I purchased it, the condition was average. Fortunately the body had recently been given some attention so that saved me a great deal of heartache. The bad news was that the electrical system was a complete nightmare, the engine fuel system was in a woeful condition, the entire interior needed to be replaced and the suspension looked like it had never been replaced in the 40+ years it had been on the road.
So in the three years I had the car, it underwent a fairly significant restoration. It had new life breathed into the engine with a Weber carburettor, additional gauges and new exhaust system, the cooling system was replaced, the electrical system was upgraded/ repaired/ restored, the car's entire suspension was replaced and upgraded, a new interior was fitted (right down to the door trims) and an IASCA-spec entertainment system was designed, built and installed.
The car had received such a significant makeover, I was contacted by the editor of The Garage Journal magazine to have the Celica featured in the very first edition!
