Bathurst Legend and 7 times Winner of the Great Race, Jim Richards has given some final words of advice to the remaining three drivers who are competing in the Shannons Supercar Showdown and vying for a place on the starting grid of the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000. Richards was keen for the eventual winner to simply focus on the job at hand and complete the race without getting into any trouble.

“Even though some of them have driving experience it’s a very hard track. I’s say - Just get to the mountain, follow as best you can, don’t get in any battles and finish.”

Since debuting himself in 1974 and finishing 3rd, Richards recalls some special times amongst his 7 wins. “The three in a row with Peter Brock were pretty special and the last one in 2002 with Mark Skaife. That was a full ten years after we last won together in 1992. I also loved the times I got to race with my son Steve.”

Technology has evolved over the years and Richards was keen for the final three driver contestants to use it to their advantage.

“Modern drivers need to learn how to take on and process all the technical data they are handed, and then apply it to how they are driving. There’s a lot more to it these days than just being able to drive around the track.”

“Jesse has driven Utes, which is a good class but not quite as technical as V8s. Andre has driven V8s, so I think he goes into the final episodes as the front runner. Glen has some pedigree in the sport and talks the talk.  But all are good young guys, so whoever gets there will do a good job.”

Shannons Supercar Showdown continues on Saturday with the finale episode determining the Winner on Sunday 30th September on 7mate.
