History
The sports car is called Vinny after its number plate VNY and the name suits the 1929/1930s era it represents.
Vinny was built by a retired US mechanical engineer Robert (Bob) Lee Allen in Ontario Canada (so you can imagine the original build quality) starting in 1986 and finishing in 1993.
Vinny was built from a kit from the Classic Motor Carriage company and its mechanical components from a 1981 Chevette (known as a Holden Gemini in Australia).
It has a 1.6 litre engine with 4 speed borg warner sports gearbox and the steering, brake and diff components of a Chevette (gemini)
The build even featured in the local newspaper (I have the original clipping and all the original receipts, build manual, spare parts).
Once the car was completed in 1993 it was used by Bob and his wife Evelyn for weekend drives around their local area and especially to their lake house.
Bob died in 1996 leaving Vinny behind with Evelyn.
In 2000 Evelyn remarried and the new couple arrived in Australia in 2005 and Vinny came with them. Vinny stayed under covers whilst they built the house and a new life together.
After being in storage for 10 years it was converted to RHD in April 2015 and put back on the road. Venturing out for picnics.
I bought Vinny in February 2016 after Evelyn passed away on the promise that I would restore him to original - previous 'professional' work on vehicle left a disaster.
Vinny is nearly finished and will be my Wife's pride and joy.
I will upload new photos once finished and polished.
