About

Incorporated in July 1980, the Street Machine Association of SA (SMASA) is run by volunteers and caters for ALL vehicle and bike enthusiasts to uphold the modification, restoration and enjoyment of car enthusiasts in SA. SMASA has been instrumental in driving a number of changes on behalf of members and other enthusiasts.  Achieved by creating petitions, regular meetings with the Minister for Transport, The Hon Stephen Mullighan and maintaining a media presence. After 10+ years of lobbying the Government, The Hon Stephen Mullighan announced scheme changes on 18 December 2016 and implemented them on 1 July 2017.  The changes are: - A rolling 25-year cut-off for year of vehicle manufacture. - Legally modified vehicles can now access the scheme. - Left-hand drive vehicles can now be legally modified. - Reduction of red-tape to free up club representatives. Since the changes were implemented SMASA has grown in strength and size from 400 members to over 6,000 members in 2023; one of the largest car clubs in Australia. SMASA is a not for profit organisation run by volunteers with the motto of 'All Makes, All Eras, All Welcome.' Our main aim is to encourage and support the modification, restoration, social events and enjoyment of vehicle ownership in South Australia. General member’s meetings are held on the THIRD Tuesday of every month (except December) at the West Adelaide Football Club, Richmond. As a financial member, you will receive quarterly digital newsletters (The Distributor), regular email updates and notifications via the app, plus the Event Calendar. Members are also able to participate in regular pit stops, cruises, our annual SMASAFest and receive other benefits such as membership discounts provided by our Sponsors.
