Jerez, Spain: MotoGP Pre-Race Report

Repsol Honda MotoGP Team

This weekend we head to Spain for a European race that is close to the hearts of the Spanish riders. If you are a Repsol Honda fan, Marc Marquez will be heading to Spain injured after fracturing his little finger and Dani Pedrosa is still not 100% so will be aiming to be fit for the Le Mans MotoGP race. Jerez is quite a challenging track with 5 left and 8 right hand corners and a straight of 607m. It is one of the most popular races on the calendar and is generally blessed with good weather for both riders and spectators.

In 2014, Marc Marquez won the race followed by Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa. In 2015, anything can happen with the cards turning in the favour of three different manufacturers. The Ducati, Honda or Yamaha could be on the top step. Valentino Rossi is having a dream start to the season. He is the current Championship leader and will be arriving in Jerez feeling fresh. The YZR-M1 has behaved very well in his opinion and it is important to continue this progress with the Yamaha team. Rossi likes the Jerez track and the atmosphere is electric. The fast turns are exciting and the battles likely to have fans gasping for air.

Jorge Lorenzo is aiming to progress forward and step up onto the podium after a tough start to the season. The determined Spanish rider has been training a lot in the past week and feels that Jerez will be challenging, exciting and rewarding. The Yamaha team is looking forward to a potential double podium finish. Meanwhile, Aleix Espargaro is looking forward to racing at Jerez. The Spanish circuit could be advantageous for the Suzuki chassis as a result of the straight, which is short in comparison to some other circuits. The GSX-RR has much to prove and there is more potential as the team arrives in Spain. Alternatively, Redding will receive updated chassis parts in Jerez, which could help propel him forward to where he wants to be. If there is anyone incredibly hungry, it is Scott Redding who wants to win more than anything in the world.

In the Moto2 class, Johann Zarco is aiming to repeat his success from Argentina in Spain. The French rider and Championship leader is working hard to bring the results for his new team Ajo Motorsport and is up against some fierce competitors including Sam Lowes and Alex Rins. The goal for Zarco now is the Championship after realising the potential of his bike and ability whilst Sam Lowes focuses on consistency. It is the complete opposite in the Moto3 class with Danny Kent remaining calm. If you start to give into anger, the results disappear and the disaster arrives. Romano Fenati has a lot to learn. The Sky Racing Team VR46 Manager has spoken out about the incident from last race where Fenati abused fellow rider Niklas Ajo. The behaviour was poor and Fenati who is representing Valentino Rossi’s team must improve if he is to finish strong in any of the races this season. Last year, Fenati was on top and this year he is falling down the ladder. Jerez will test the riders in every way possible whilst the crowd yells, screams and laughs as the bikes chop and change in direction!
