Bushfire Safety

It’s not summer yet, but we’ve already seen the dangers of bushfire right across Australia and with weather experts predicting a long, hot summer, the threat of bushfires is real for everyone. To help you get your home in great shape for the season, we’ve enclosed some handy prevention tips.

Bushfire ready tips:
  • Cut back any overhanging trees, or shrubs.
  • Check the condition of your roof and replace any damaged, or missing tiles.
  • Check the condition of external walls, cladding and seal any gaps.
  • Remove leaves from the roof, gutters and downpipes and fit quality metal leaf guards where possible.
  • Consider non-combustible fencing, as this is more likely to withstand the intense heat from a bushfire.
  • Install metal fly-wire, or solid screens to external windows and doors.
  • Enclose all under-floor areas.
  • Have a non-combustible doormat.
  • Keep your lawn short and the backyard tidy.
  • Make sure you have a hose that can reach every part of your home.
  • Consider purchasing a portable pump to use with your swimming pool, or water tank.
  • Flammable material should be covered and like woodpiles, stored away from the house
