R AND S SERIES FLINDERS RANGES TRIP 2023

By Carclub - 26 September 2023

The R & S Chrysler Valiant Car Club of Victoria recently completed a brilliant trip to the Flinders Ranges in South Australia.

The club trip was centred on Hawker in the Flinders Ranges, the largest mountain ranges in South Australia, which allowed trips to surrounding areas.

To start the trip Victorian R and S Series Valiants and club guest cars assembled in Deer Park and travelled to Nhill for an overnight stop.  The next day the convoy travelled to the Adelaide suburb of Glenelg.

The following day the Victorians were joined by members of the affiliated South Australian R & S Valiant club and the convoy increased to sixteen interesting and historic cars.  The procession proceeded to Hawker via Clare and Quorn.

Hawker provided a base for exploration of the historic and picturesque Flinders Ranges with destinations including Wilpena Pound, Blinman and its disused copper mine, the railhead town of Quorn and the Kanyaka Station ruins.  Kanyaka was a cattle and sheep station that once supported 70 families but was abandoned in 1888 due to intense heat and lack of water.

The convoy commenced the return to Melbourne via Orroroo, the historic mining town Burra where the South Australians left the trip and the river port Morgan, to an overnight stop at Renmark.

The next day involved travel to Swan Hill via Cullulleraine, Mildura and Robinvale using a route through New South Wales.  The group was joined by a further S Series from Mildura.

The return to Melbourne included a visit to the Lake Boga Flying Boat Museum and stops at Terang and Serpentine.

The trip was yet another successful tour organised by the R & S Chrysler Valiant Car Club of Victoria and follows trips to Tasmania Broken Hill, Adelaide, Canberra and Griffith.
