Lismore Speedway has been celebrating its 50th anniversary this season. The track opened for racing on 22nd November, 1969. It is one of Australia’s longest continually operating oval dirt track venues. Track promoter David Lander has been hard at work delivering high quality events as part of the season long festivities. “I am so very proud to be the promoter at Lismore Speedway at this time in its magnificent history,” David said. “When I first came to Lismore in 2007 after an approach was made for me to consider promoting the track, I was well aware this place had plenty of history. What this place has achieved in fifty continuous years of racing is a remarkable and incredible achievement.” Whilst Lismore Speedway may be classified as a provincial dirt oval, the circuit has seen 18 local Australian titleholders over the 50 years begin their racing careers at the track, an accomplishment unmatched by any other Australian speedway venue. As part of the celebrations Lander commissioned a 130 page colour magazine. The publication Pioneering promoter Dutton Stibbard and driver Barry Arnetz enjoy the post race celebrations. 59
