Portland Classics by the Bay: Classic Restos - Series 49

By Shannons - Published on 11 April 2022

Fletch travels out of New South Wales for the first time in a long time to Portland in Victoria for the 2022 Portland Classic Auto Club Show and Shine.

The spotlight is on Holden for this year's event, but classics from all persuasions are on display. The Portland Classic Auto Club recognises Fletch and Classic Restos notoriety amongst motoring enthusiasts by creating the Fletch's Choice Award.

With the spotlight on Holden, Fletch talks with Michael, owner of a 1973 LV Replica Holden Torana, fully restored in the Brock/Chivas Holden Dealer Team livery for Bathurst. Purchased back in 2019, Michael says it was not in excellent condition with damaged panels, and the engine needed a complete rebuild. A very good friend offered to do all the bodywork, and Michael took on the rest. Great attention to detail of the livery results in a beautiful replica.

Next is Derek with a 1959 MGA in a beautiful red. Derek acquired the MGA  partially restored 10-12 years ago and took on the task of completing the project, including a full engine rebuild. Today it drives like a go-kart and is great fun.

Scotty's 1972 VH R/T Charger in Vitamin C Orange is a beautiful exhibit in absolute pristine concourse condition. This story will ring true with many enthusiasts; the car was Scotty's father's car, who had taken it apart and put it on the rotisserie where it sat in the garage for ten years.

Scotty returned from a trip to SummerNats, all excited, thinking, 'what could we do to the car'. The result is outstanding inside and out, including the original re-upholstered tombstone bucket seats. Still, it doesn't stop there both under the bonnet and inside the boot are a spotless presentation.

Finally, is Maria the winner of the Fletch's Choice Award with her 1960 XK Ford Falcon. This car is another outstanding presentation with beautiful paintwork, brightwork and interior. Purchased 33 years ago for just $800, Maria has continually worked on this total nut and bolt restoration and has just recently completed the restoration.
