Kumeu Classic Car & Hot Rod Festival NZ Part 2: Classic Restos - Series 40

By Shannons - Published on 21 February 2019

Fletch heads out onto the Showfields at Kumeu and talks with some of the proud owners about their vehicles.  First, up is Clinton's customised and chopped EH Holden Panel Van that reminds Fletch of the Holden concept car Efijy. The customised EK is the result of a 4 1/2 year project.

Next is Al with 1957 International truck that he aspired to own since he was a young boy. While not entirely complete it's almost there, and as Al says when you do a complete rebuild, "do it once and do it properly".

The oldest car at the show is a beautifully presented 1912 Model T Ford owned by David, who says restoring these early model Fords is made easier by the parts being readily available from the US.

Rod shows us his 1956 Lincoln Capri, a model that there are not too many of today. This is the twin to Rod's 1955 Ford Mercury that is also in the same colour.

There's entertainment galore with a demonstration of military might by the Miltary Vehicle Club of New Zealand, who put a tank and a Ford Mondeo to the test and then there is Steve with his Jet Car, a 6,000 hp engine from an F15 Tiger fighter that can hit 275 mph.

The Kumeu Classic Car & Hot Festival is a massive event over three days with something for everyone and well worth considering next year.
