Hershey Swap Meet - Fletch's USA Road Trip - Part 2: Classic Restos - Series 42

By Shannons - Published on 29 November 2019

Fletch has made it to Hershey, Pennsylvania for one of the Worlds' largest swap meets for motoring enthusiasts. An absolute treasure trove of everything automotive, with over 9,000 individual vendors trading parts, signage, memorabilia and toys - anything you can think of and more. You cannot do justice to the scale of this swap meet and the diversity of items on offer. You have to see it to believe it. Fletch catches up with some regulars, who have been returning to Hershey for over 40 years. Fletch, along with Mark from Shannons, have allocated three days to try and see as much as is possible.

Alongside the swap meet is the Car Corral with over 1,000 automotive classics for sale. Fletch talks with just a few of the private car traders and their special vehicles for sale. First up is Steve with a 1974 Buick LeSabre, fully optioned and in as new 'original ' condition. Apart from a fresh paint job in Poly Cranberry Red and with just 14,000 miles on the clock.

Then there is Bill with a very rare 1957 Ford Fairlane Skyliner Retractable, a mouthful for a model name but this one lives up to its title. With an amazing retractable roof, equal to anything we have today and on a car that is 20 foot long. One of only 38 built with an Economotor 312 V8 and dual 4 barrel carby's. It's another great looking car.

Last but by no means least is Tim with a Mopar. A 1971 Chrysler Newport, at the time this wasn't one of the highest spec cars. But what is amazing, is the condition it's in. An absolute 'original' model, inside and out.

The Hershey Swap Meet is like no other and the reason that Fletch keeps going back, every year, it's one for the bucket list. It's on the first weekend of October every year since 1955, add it to yours.
