Dear Member
\nYou are invited to join us on a run to t he historic town of Clunes\n situated North of Ballarat. Clunes was the s ite of Victoria's first\n gold strike in 1851 which led to a gold rush wh ich swept through\n central Victoria\, resulting in a massive population boost for the\n state and great wealth for many.
\nThese days\, Clu nes is an agricultural\, pastoral and tourist township\,\n nestled in a s cenic valley. Many of the original buildings in Clunes\n have been preser ved from those gold rush days\, perfectly illustrated\n with a visit to t he wide and elegant Fraser Street. It is lined with\n 19th century buildi ngs and shop fronts including the National Hotel\n (1862)\, Club Hotel (1 870) and Union Bank (1865).
\nThat streetscape has caught the eye of film producers including those\n who produced \;Mad Max. Shooting too k place in and around Melbourne.\n Many of the car chase scenes for Mad M ax were filmed near the town of\n Little River\, northeast of Geelong. Th e early town scenes with the Toe\n Cutter Gang were filmed in the main st reet of Clunes. Much of the\n streetscape remains unchanged.
