When people start talking about old car radios, I'm always reminded of Chrysler's sensational 'Highway Hi-Fi' in-car record player, which was a $200 option on the 1956 models in the US. Chrysler claimed the needle would never jump when the car went over a bump, but it did of course and there were numerous warranty claims. And that was in the US, with its network of super smooth Interstate highways. I can't imagine why the idea never caught on in Australia back then, when most of our roads were corrugated dirt tracks!
