Having spoken to some retired GM designers, there is a direct line of sight from the 850 coupe, through the 124, the Vega, the LH Torana and other GM cars at Opel, Vauxhall and Chevrolet. Here's a pic of a proposed LH two door sedan, before the hatchback was considered. Mind you, Fiat took the Corvair styling and used it on their 1500. So I guess it all balances out.
