Yep, brand and technical diversity is king, Flat4. That's one of many fundamental problems with V8 Stupidcars, because one of motor racing's enduring audible highlights - the roar of a V8 engine - is lost as they are all virtually identical V8 engines. During the Group A era telecasts, though, each time they crossed to Racecam in a Mustang or Commodore the V8 sound was unique amongst numerous other engine notes. The key to interesting motor sport for me? Brand and technical diversity. Please bring back the '70s and '80s!
Lap times in motorsport now are so narrow even a smallest disadvantage will see a team lose entire season. When at this peak level technical advantages are smoothed out, like in F1 where they have a phone book of regulations. They dont want to see a team dominate (which ends up being the case and ends up being a snooze fest). There is more diversity in more grassroots level, which I'm more interested in. Its always the odd ones out you remember and make it exciting, to me Rickard Rydell Volvo 850 estate in the BTCC was most memorable, who in their right mind brings a station wagon to a touring car championship, then wins.
