Before you go spending $350, check out the fuel tank liner stuff http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=... there is one called 'slosh' (no, not suchi LOL) this stuff is tough... it stops rust, fills holes and makes it better than the original. Also, look on ebay, http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HOLDEN-HQ-DRO... there are 3 of them for less than $200, they have sealer called 'cream' and you can buy an alloy drop tank for $395.... $350 for another tank fitted might not be a bad price, but I am a cheap skete, so I would rather buy cheap and do it myself... whatever you get, put some sealer in it.... I am doing my imp as well....as the irish say, to be sure to be sure
Thanks madmuz I ended up purchasing an old (new) one off a guy on a Facebook group for $150! Ok guys so I got my car back from my mechanic yesterday. Just got new carpets installed and he fixed a vinyl strip on the back of the rear seat that was perished and its come up an absolute treat! I ended up getting my mates dad who is a mechanic to get it up to roadworthy and mechanically great and its taken a month or so as its been a kind of side project for him whilst he services cars etc on a day to day basis. I didn't have time as I just got a new job to embark on a huge journey of doing all the things he did and learning and f****** up etc but I still have a number of things I want to do to her to get her looking great. She drives like a dream and I can't wait until its fully registered to take her out legally! All is great bar one issue....I strongly (and so does my mechanic) believe the chassis VIN number has been buffed out at some stage... He looked where it was supposed to be and we both saw what looked to be grind marks. This is extremely odd as from what I know it was only owned by one old man and I have every single service receipt as well as the original purchase receipt from 1975! It has all the three ID tags on near the vents but for the life of us we can't find the chassis number and we are 99% certain we are looking in the correct place (as he knows kingswoods well) Can anyone take a pic of exactly where it is meant to be?! I called up vic roads and they panicked as they thought the worse case situation in that I'd purchased a stolen vehicle and they'd have to examine it forensically etc but I told them I was only getting it under club reg and they relaxed as the club does the inspection not them under those circumstances. All this is great but I'm still really concerned about whats going on here. What happened in this cars past life that there is no chassis number, its just shifty as hell. If I were seeking to get a new VIN vicroads would have to allow me to submit any and all evidence I have of the history of the car, whereby they then form a case 'for' and 'against' the car and essentially decide whether they will allow me to have it or not :/ The last option would be to get the VIN stamped on the chassis in the location where its been erased. This as I know is pretty illegal and I wouldn't even know where to start on how and where etc. Can anyone shed some light on what I should do/what has happened?! Thanks all
