I couldn't afford a MM Pony, I had a 1934 Morris 8/40. I can't remember what it cost, but I only had what dad had been able to get for my saddle to spend. I had a GMH cadetship to do engineering. 3 days at uni & 2 at the Pagewood factory a week. I was paid the princely sum of 7 pounds 6 shillings, [$14.60 in today's stuff], & paid 3 pounds for a room & dinner in a boarding house in Coogee. I met up with a couple of kids from High School in Young, doing teachers scholarships, & another working in the city, all on about the same money . I had the car but no money, they could scrape up a bit each for petrol, & we went cruising on weekends. The Coogee surf club let us join for free, & after training used to do a patrol about once every 3 weeks. God we were poor, but we felt like kings.
