What brilliant, in-depth commentary! It is good to know that club members enjoy videos on arcane cars such as this one. I was particularly struck, porterhouse, by your analysis of where Jaguar was perceived to stand in the British automotive hierarchy. My English father (a retired High Court Judge from the British Raj) wanted a Jaguar Mark V but instead took (immediate) delivery of the first (only?) Armstrong Siddeley Whitley to be delivered in Tasmania. That was in December 1950 and there was quite a wait for the Jag. He subsequently rationalised choosing the less exciting and much slower car on the Flash Harry line of argument. As a five-year-old I was not convinced and I'm still not!
