Ah yes johnh875, I'd forgotten about the SSR, which jogged my memory of the outrageous Plymouth Prowler that Chrysler US produced from 1997 to 2002. Chrysler's then-design boss Tom Gale, who was a mad keen hot-rodder in his spare time, thought a retro-modern version inspired by 1930s-era street rods would be a good thing. Not sure how many Prowler sales Gale needed to make his business case but it was very niche with sales of less than 12,000. Only offering a V6 engine didn't help its street cred but just making it into production was a major achievement in itself.
