During my research, eggman67, I found a photo of the Studebaker coupe used by Stevens as the "mule" for his re-work of the design. I heard a story that Loewy complained to Studebaker about Stevens doing work for them, but went quiet when asked about progress on the Avanti styling he'd been contracted to complete. I suspect Studebaker boss Sherwood Egbert hired both designers as a way to create competitive tension. And as for the Jeep Wagoneer, well, despite what Land Rover's PR folk claim about the Range Rover, Jeep beat them to the SUV and luxury SUV market by 7 years. Stevens' basic design theme is still used today by every maker of the SUV.
