As I always say, I was born two decades too late! Had I been an early baby boomer I would have been old enough to witness and fully appreciate the greatest decade of motor sport, which was unquestionably the 1960s. However, the first race meeting I attended was at Sydney's Oran Park in 1974 for a round of the Toby Lee Sports Sedan series, when John McCormack's Repco-Holden V8-powered Charger was cleaning up. I'll never forget the impact that first race meeting had on me - the incredible speeds, the awesome sounds, the bright colours and of course the smells. That first whiff of high octane racing fuel stays with you for life.
