The SM proved to be a rally winner like its DS sibling, having claimed the 1971 Morocco Rally (below). That was a very rugged event held over harsh desert terrain with competitive stages in some cases spanning hundreds of km. It was also a round of the WRC for several years in the early 1970s, so a very tough test of man and machine. I'm surprised an SM wasn't entered in the World Cup Rally the following year, which was won by a DS23 with Aussie Ken Tubman at the wheel.
