Great article! Brings back a lot of memories of my 1971 Mazda Capella RE sedan I bought in 1972 having traded my Mark II Jaguar. Was quite a contrast and the rotary seemed like a rocket, so smooth to drive. However after the seals went on two occasions I traded it on a Toyota Celica in 1973 for more reliability. While in Hawaii in 1973 I rented a Mazda RX3 station wagon with three speed automatic and faux timber side panels! This model never came to Australia. In 1976 I bought a Mazda 121 coupe with an 1800cc engine and in 1982 a Mazda 929 four door hardtop (very slow performance from the 2 litre). I was banned by my wife in having a rotary again!
