To add to your discussion, SC, here is a poster from 1966 with GMH telling us how they managed to keep prices down and that the HR was as good value as a 1952 48/215. Sorry about the quality of the poster - it was on a wall in the dealership in my home town, has faded, got water damaged, and then my cat had a go at the bottom of it to sharpen his claws......
