Totally agree Motown1! All new cars are so much larger than the original, and it’s such a shame in some aspects, as power to weight plays a massive part in the overall performance make-up of the vehicle. I recall when I drove the current shape Subaru WRX when they first came out, I couldn't believe how heavy it felt compared to my WRX (GC8 original shape). It was lacking the go-kart feel, that’s so appealing with the original. Its must be hard as a manufacturer these days, as the consumer wants the car loaded with the latest safety and electronic gear. This addition takes up a huge amount of space and also adds weight. The current models are more efficient and produce more power, in most cases. But in my opinion, lose some of the rawness and appeal. Look at the original Mini Cooper – It weighed only 686kg with the current shape coming in at 1135 kg In recent times, the only cars I can think of that have really captured the appeal of the original is the Toyota 86 and the new Mazda MX5.
