Interesting question JW and I must say the first model (or variants in this case) that spring to mind were the EcoBoost four cylinder and EcoLPi six cylinder versions of the last Aussie Falcon - the FG X. I drove both of them and was astonished at how good they were. The 176kW/353Nm EcoBoost four had heaps of turbocharged torque that didn't feel at all like a four cylinder. The lighter engine weight also ensured fine handling balance with crisp turn-in. The 8.0L/100km economy was outstanding. The EcoLPi liquid LPG-injected six was superb with slightly more power and torque (198kW/409Nm) than the petrol equivalent with super smooth response. It also attracted a $2500 government subsidy for gas-fuelled vehicles, which was soon withdrawn of course. Both of these models were virtually ignored by car buyers but I will remember both of them as being seriously underrated because they were both really good jiggers.
