Talking about road cars on speedway: back in 1972, Bernie Whalen, who raced a Torana at Heddon Greta Speedway, acquired a dark green Mustang, with a black vinyl roof. He did a demonstration run around the rack one night and two weeks later it appeared as his new race car, painted bright orange and still with the vinyl roof. This photo is from a mid-winter 1972 show at the speedway, with Bernie attempting to correct a spin of in a heat race. I know this because, under the red arrow in the pic is me with a large group of school mates.
