While I agree very much with freeway64s comments concerning ‘61 full size Chevrolet passenger cars, however I have to note the following corrections. “Impala Super Sport” This article refers to body styling only and is not centred around the ‘Super Sport’ option which Chevrolet introduced late in the 1961 model year. The 2 door pillarless hardtop styling that in later years was refer to by some as the “bubble top” was actually used on the following Chevrolet models: 1961 Belair 2 door Sport Coupe Impala 2 door Sport Coupe Impala Super Sport Coupe 1962 Belair 2 door Sport Coupe Its true that in 1962 the 4 door sedan rear roof styling changed to look similar to the 4 door Sport Sedan styling but I am not certain that I would agree with the view that in 1962 most of the previously offered roof designs were “dropped”. For me 1961 and 1962 were simply the ‘stand out’ years for fully size Chevrolet design. Even our Australian GMH assembled 1961 and 1962 Chevrolet Belairs with the small ‘dog dish’ hub caps, painted steel wheels and black wall tires looked stunning when compared with other cars on Australian roads in the 1960s. Finally, I have to add a photo or two of my much loved export RHD 1962 Impala Sport Sedan. I am its second owner and have owned it for over 44 years!
