Nice topic Joe. There's so many great cars that meet this criteria, but two that spring to mind are Ford's legendary GT40 and, closer to home, Holden's LX Torana A9X Hatchback. To me the GT40 was the peak of Ford's Total Performance strategy in the 1960s and given its extraordinary Le Mans-winning performances, the fact that some of these cars also saw road duties at the time is remarkable. I hold the A9X in similar esteem, given its 'scorched earth' domination of local touring car racing in the late 1970s. And in standard road trim, it was such a fast, rewarding and yet civilised car to drive.
