Spring is just around the corner and it’s time for enthusiasts to open their garages and take to the roads again to enjoy their special cars.

If you’ve got spring motoring fever, there’s no better cure than at Shannons Melbourne Spring Auction on September 17, where a well-known Melbourne enthusiast is offering some of the choicest classics from his private collection of rare and sought-after British, German, Italian and American cars.

This beautiful and rare right-hand drive 1961 356B Roadster is expected go sell in the $250,0000-$300,000 range.

The auction represents a great opportunity for Porsche enthusiasts, with four sought-after early models on offer, highlighted by a professionally-restored right-hand drive 1961 356B Roadster.

This beautiful open Porsche model is regarded by 356 aficionados as one of the most desirable early models because of its rarity and the purity of its design. As a result, it is expected to attract world-wide interest in the $250,0000-$300,000 range.

This 1967 left-hand drive 912 ‘Soft Window’ Targa Coupe presents a great opportunity for Porsche collectors at Shannons September 17 Melbourne Spring Auction, where it is expected to sell in the $70,000-$80,000 range.

Another exciting opportunity for early Porsche collectors is an early and very collectible ‘Targa’ versions of the four cylinder Porsche 912. First released in 1965 as a more affordable four-cylinder alternative to the otherwise virtually identical new six-cylinder 911, the 912 in recent years has become one of the most sought-after of the early 9-series models.

The earliest Targas, with their zip down plastic rear window, that was replaced by glass on later models, are particularly rare in demand and the 1967 left-hand drive 912 'Soft Window' Targa Coupe on offer presents an opportunity and is expected to sell in the $70,000-$80,000 range.

An alternative for Porsche 912 enthusiasts is a 1967 right-hand drive fixed-roof Coupe owned by the same Melbourne enthusiast that is expected to sell in the $75,000-$85,000 range.

This 1973 model Porsche 911T ‘Targa’ 2.4 Coupe presented in excellent drivable condition is expected to bring $85,000-$100,000.

Also sought-after by collectors are the final 1973 iterations of the early 911 Targa that featured the same distinctive Butzi Porsche-designed stainless-steel roll-over hoop, but a more durable glass rear window.

The 911T ‘Targa’ 2.4 Coupe coming to auction is presented in lovely condition throughout, with its red paintwork offset by a rare factory front nudge bar and ‘cookie cutter’ alloy wheels.

Built as a totally useable drivers’ car, it was driven by media personality Kate Peck in last year’s Targa Florio Tribute in Victoria and is expected to sell in the $85,000-$100,000 range.

This magnificent left-hand drive 1964 Volkswagen Kombi 21-Window ‘Samba’ Bus could easily out-price some of the Porsches to sell in the $80,000-$100,000 range.

Also from Germany and the same collection is a magnificent left-hand drive 1964 Volkswagen Kombi 21-Window 'Samba' Bus presented in an eye-catching colour combination. With values of these early VW commercial vehicles soaring internationally in recent years, it could easily out-strip some of the Porsches to sell in the $80,000-$100,000 range.

Enthusiasts of early Fiats have a treasure-trove of models to choose from, with the highlights being a now very rare 1959 Fiat 1200TV (Turismo Veloce) Convertible accompanied by a right-hand drive 1100TV body ($55,000-$65,000) and a lovely 1964 Fiat 600 Multipla Wagon ($50,000-$65,000) –both in restored and coming to auction in their original left-hand drive configuration.

This charming 1959 Fiat 500 Giardiniera Wagon is one of four great classic Fiats in Shannons September 17 Melbourne Spring Auction, where it is expected to bring $25,000-$35,000.

The other classic Fiats in the auction are a 1953 500C Topolino convertible ($20,000-$30,000) and an equally-desirable 1959 Fiat 500 Giardiniera Wagon ($25,000-$35,000).

This rare five-speed manual 1983 Ferrari 400I V12 Coupe – one of only 27 manual right-hand-drive cars made – is expected to provide an attractive entry to Ferrari V12 ownership in the $120,000-$130,000 range,

Also from Italy is a rare five-speed manual 1983 Ferrari 400I V12 Coupe – one of only 27 manual right-hand-drive cars made – that was originally delivered in Scotland and comes to auction in lovely condition.

Arriving in Australia from New Zealand five years ago with rebuilt mechanicals and verifiable very low mileage, the Ferrari represents an affordable entry into the halcyon world of Ferrari V12 ownership at its expected selling range of $120,000-$130,000.

This highly-collectible V12-engined 1938 Lincoln Zephyr that is understood to have called Australia home since new, is expected to bring $75,000-$90,000.

From Britain, there is a wonderful 1996 Bentley Brooklands V8 'Turbo' Saloon presented in lovely, low-kilometre condition ($55,000-$65,000), while from the USA there is a highly-collectible V12-engined 1938 Lincoln Zephyr – a very rare right-hand drive American classic that is understood to have called Australia home since new ($75,000-$90,000).
