Mark Winterbottom and co-driver Steven Richards took the biggest win in the team’s 11 year history after Winterbottom kept his cool under immense pressure from pre-race favourite Jamie Whincup during the final nail-biting laps.

The 161-lap race also set a new record as the fastest Bathurst 1000 race held so far, eclipsing the previous benchmark set in 2010 thanks largely to only two Safety Car interventions.

It was also an impressive debut for the category’s new generation ‘Car of the Future’ with only one mechanically-related retirement in the 29-car field.

FPR’s long-awaited victory - the first for an official Ford factory team since 1977 - was extra sweet for Shannons as FPR and its drivers Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison are also an integral part of this year’s Shannons Supercar Showdown reality show, which airs each week on 7mate.

Shannons National Marketing Manager, Mark Behr, said FPR’s long-awaited Mountain win was just reward for more than a decade of never giving up on its goal of winning Bathurst.

“Shannons is extremely proud to have been a part of Ford Performance Racing’s first victory at the Bathurst 1000. Mark Winterbottom, Steven Richards and the whole FPR team led by Tim Edwards did a fantastic job and we congratulate them whole-heartedly.

“We’re also very proud that Mark, Will and Tim are a key part of our Shannons Supercar Showdown series, helping young talent rise to the top of Australian motor racing. Supporting the motor enthusiast community is what Shannons is all about.”
