• Rare black & white numerical NSW number plates, including ‘29’

• Super-rare 1938 V16 Cadillac

• Classic Porsches, Jensen, MGs, Volvo ES Sports

The New South Wales number plate ‘29’ issued early last century and a stunning 1938 Cadillac V16 Series 38-90 Convertible Coupe are the standout lots of Shannons Sydney autumn auction on Monday (May 22).

The historic double-digit NSW numerical black and white number plate ’29’, whose origins date back to early last century, is expected to sell for around $500,000.

Low number, double digit plates rarely come onto the market, as they are usually passed down through families or sold privately.

29’, which at one stage adorned a 26HP Minerva, could potentially set an Australian auction record for a NSW double-digit plate

Shannons are quoting a guiding range of $490,000-$550,00 for this rare piece of NSW automotive history, however the Victorian plate ‘21’ sold at auction for $530,000 in July last year and Heritage market conditions have continued their positive momentum since.

This superb left hand drive 1938 Cadillac V16 Series 38-90 Convertible Coupe is expected to sell in the $215,000 - $240,000 range.

The V16 Cadillac is one of only a handful of these extraordinary American luxury cars to reach Australia and it has won a number of trophies since arriving here in 2010.

Although an older, high quality Canadian restoration, the Cadillac remains in very good condition throughout and is expected to appeal to International collectors at its estimated selling range of $215,000-$240,000.

Other highlights of Monday’s Shannons Sydney Autumn auction are:

• An exceptionally low mileage (33,838 miles) Mercedes-Benz 300B ‘Adenauer’ limousine that was first owned by the Victa Lawnmower family, offered with ‘no reserve’ ($40,000 - $46,000)

• Two right hand drive convertible Cadillacs: a fabulous black with red leather, 1960 Series 62 Convertible ($40,000 - $50,000) and a white 1984 right hand drive ‘Arnold Palmer Gold Key Limited Edition’ Eldorado Biarritz Convertible ($34,000 - $38,000)

• Two sought-after Porsches: a freshly-restored 1964-model 356C coupe upgraded to more powerful SC specs ($110,000-$135,000) and a very rare in Australia 1988 model wide-body 930 Turbo Cabriolet ($110,000-$120,000)

• Two interesting dual-purpose sports ‘hatches’ from the late 1960s and 1970s: a 1968 Jensen Interceptor Mk1 Coupe ($38,000-$48,000) and a 1973 Volvo P1800 ES Sports Wagon ($28,000-$34,000)

• Two great Post War MGs: 1962 MGA Roadster fully restored to MkII specification ($36,000-$40,000) and a multiple trophy winning 1949-model MG TD coming to auction from long-term ownership ($22,000-$30,000).

All lots in Monday’s auction will be available for inspection over this weekend at Shannons Showroom, 65 Reserve Road, St Leonards, from 9am-4pm Saturday (May 20) and 10am-4pm Sunday (May 21).
