• Stunning, enhanced 1969 HT Monaro GTS 350

• Very collectible ‘first production’ GTR XU-1 in sought-after Strike Me Pink

• Great selection of 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s classic Holdens.

A treasure trove of Aussie Icons will be crossing the block with ‘no reserve’ at Shannons Melbourne Autumn Auction on Monday (April 29).

The stars of the ‘no reserve’ show are a pair of high-performance Holdens – a 1969 HT Monaro Coupe now fitted with a 350ci small block V8 stroked to 383ci, with other mechanical enhancements and an unmissable ‘Strike Me Pink’ 1972 LJ Torana GTR-XU1 with a period race history that was stored for 24 years.

This 1969 HT Monaro Coupe now fitted with a 350ci small block V8 stroked to 383ci and featuring many other mechanical and cosmetic updates, is expected to sell with ’no reserve’ for $90,000-$110,000.

Between 2013 – 2014, the Monaro was rebuilt from the ground up and tastefully modified for both performance and practicality and at a cost of more than $160,000.

The work included fitting and stroking a 350ci V8 engine to 383ci, matched to a super-strong GM Turbo 350 three-speed automatic transmission with a B&M shifter, while big disc brakes at both ends and a Ford 9inch differential complete its high performance spec.

Setting off its flawless bodywork is a stunning Lexus shade of Pearl White, with HT-style twin stripes in metallic silver, while inside, the standard cabin has been custom trimmed throughout in fawn and burgundy leather.

With these significant and high-quality upgrades, the Monaro is expected to sell with ‘no reserve’ in the $90,000-$110,000 range.

This unmissable ‘Strike Me Pink’ 1972 LJ-model Torana XU-1 authenticated by Holden to be the first documented LJ-model XU-1 produced at its Adelaide plant, is expected to sell with ‘no reserve’ for $80,000 - $100,000

Equally desirable to Australian performance car enthusiasts will be the 1972 LJ-model Torana XU-1 in its hugely collectable original colour of ‘Strike Me Pink’.

Authenticated by Holden to be the first documented LJ-model XU-1 produced at GM-H’s Elizabeth plant and originally delivered by Melville Motors in South Australia, it was log-booked in 1976 by CAMS as a Sports Sedan in Western Australia.

During its racing career it was lightened extensively before being purchased by the vendor in 1994, who has since largely returned it to its production specification, although a number of its original racing modifications have been retained.

Coming to auction as a complete and interesting Australian sporting classic, with a recently refreshed older restoration, this historically significant XU-1 is expected to sell with ‘no reserve’ in the $80,000 - $100,000 range.

his one-family-owned and always garaged 1979 308ci V8-engined HZ Holden Statesman DeVille is expected to bring $10,000 - $15,000 when offered with ’no reserve’.

Other great ‘no reserve’ Aussie Icons’ Monday’s auction include a lightly refreshed and complete Chocolate over Tan 1957 Holden FE Utility ($18,000 - $24,000); a rare, standard, two-owner 1954 Holden FJ Standard Sedan, whose odometer is showing just 46,000 miles ($15,000 - $20,000); a one-family-owned and always garaged 1979 308ci V8-engined HZ Holden Statesman DeVille ($10,000 - $15,000); and a one family-owned, unrestored and low mileage (86,500) 1962 Holden EJ Special Sedan ($8,000 - $12,000).

In all, 25 of the 78 vehicles in Monday’s Shannons auction are being offered with no reserve.

All lots can be inspected over this coming weekend at Shannons Showroom, 40 Corporate Drive, Heatherton, from 9.00am-4.00pm Saturday and 10.00am-4.00pm Sunday. Monday’s auction on April 29 starts at 7.00pm.
