• Collectible 1974 LH Torana L34 Sedan

• Well-optioned manual XB Falcon GT

• Sought-after 1981 Police Pursuit XD 351 V8

Five great ‘middle-tier’ local Muscle Cars will close off Shannons’ next Sydney Classic Auction in Aussie style on August 13.

The sought-after Chrysler, Ford and Holden will rumble across the block in the Winter auction that will see 50 Classic cars and motorcycles go under the hammer at its Reserve Road, St.Leonards showroom.

This 1974 Holden LH Torana SL/R 5000 Sedan that is coming to auction in great condition from long-term ownership is expected to sell for $95,000-$125,000.

The biggest ticket item of the five local muscle cars is a Bathurst ‘homologation special’ 1974 Holden LH Torana SL/R 5000 Sedan that is coming to auction in great condition from long-term ownership.

As one of just 263 L34 homologation specials completed at GM-H’s Dandenong, Victoria plant the Torana has a number of common period modifications, including Simmons alloy wheels, a large drop-tank, the model’s signature reverse bonnet scoop and extra gauges.

Of interest to collectors, the Torana even sports a period radio/cassette player with that ‘80s must-have accessory – a graphic equalizer!

Given their legendary racing history, L34s are amongst Australia’s most collectible Australian Muscle Cars, with Shannons expecting this example equipped with a replacement 308 V8 engine and a 9-inch differential to sell in the $95,000-$125,000 range.

This very desirable four-speed manual gearbox 1974 XB Falcon GT with just 77,966 miles showing on its odometer is expected to bring $70,000-$80,000.

Ford collectors are well catered for here, with three relatively-affordable V8-engined Falcons.

The crown jewel here is a very desirable four-speed manual gearbox 1974 XB Falcon GT with just 77,966 miles showing on its odometer.

Well-optioned with a wind-back sun roof, integrated air conditioning, sports road wheels and twin mirrors – a unique option for this model – the GT has also been repainted in its rare factory colour of Mushroom Beige, while its Saddle interior remains substantially original.

The increasingly collectible XB GT is being sold with its delivery books and a good history file and is expected to sell in the $70,000-$80,000 range.

This one-owner 1973 Ford XA Superbird Hardtop that was restored to GT appearance in the 1990s is being offered with ’no reserve’ at Shannons Sydney Winter Auction on August 13, where it is expected to sell for $45,000-$50,000.

Almost as desirable is a  one-owner 1973 Ford XA Superbird Hardtop was restored to GT appearance in the 1990s, changing its original colour of Lime Glaze to a dark metallic green and adding a rear spoiler and GT grille.

Retaining its 302-cid V8 (now stroked to 351spec) matched to a four-speed manual transmission – one of just 59 finished to this configuration – the Superbird is being offered with ‘no reserve’ and is expected to sell for $45,000-$50,000.

This increasingly collectible 1981 Ford XD Falcon GL ex- Police ‘Pursuit’ Sedan is expected to sell in the $35,000-$45,000 range.

Nearly a decade younger, but also very desirable for its ‘police’ status, is a 1981 Ford XD Falcon GL ‘Police Pursuit’ Sedan.

Equipped with the GL’s model’s rarely-specified Ford’s 351 V8 and four-speed manual gearbox, Police Pursuit XD’s from June 1980 were also delivered with Ford’s European Sports Pack that included sports suspension, Scheel bucket seats and wide wheels shod with low profile tyres, while a limited-slip diff and four-wheel disc brakes were mandatory options on all V8s.

With Police forces around Australia in the 1980s ordering XDs as Highway Patrol vehicles, these cars, along with the ESPs, have a proven cult following today and the original example being auctioned is expected go command $35,000-$45,000.

This Chrysler VH Valiant Charger XL Coupe equipped with the rare factory four-speed manual option is expected to sell in the $45,000-$55,000 range.

Finally, for Chrysler enthusiasts, Shannons have a desirable ‘Hemi Orange’ 1972 Chrysler VH Valiant Charger XL Coupe equipped with the rare factory four-speed manual option and supplied with books and history.

Showing 25,539 miles at the time of cataloguing – indicating it has been ‘around the clock’ – the Charger now wears a set of refurbished optional sports-style wheels and otherwise looks very much as it left the factory 46 years ago. It is expected to sell in the $45,000-$55,000 range.
