HSV/HDT Commodore feast at Shannons Late Summer Sale

Performance Commodore buyers have a unique opportunity to invest in the HDT/HSV legend at Shannons Melbourne Late Summer auction on February 27.

This early HSV VL Walkinshaw sedan that would make a perfect bookend to the latest 30th Anniversary model just released is expected to sell in the $75,000-$85,000 range.

The first auction staged at Shannons new Melbourne showroom features an HSV VL Walkinshaw and two low kilometres HDT ‘Brock’ SS Commodores – a VK and a VL – amongst no fewer than 10 Holdens in the auction.

The VL ‘Walky’, No 516 of the limited first series of HSV Commodores built for Group A touring car homologation following the late Peter Brock’s split from Holden, would make the perfect ‘bookend’ for buyers of the latest and last HSV GTSR W1 just announced.

Marking 30 Years of HSV Commodores built in Australia, the 2017 HSV’s supercharged 6.2 litre LS9 V8 pumps out 474kW, yet the original HSV SS Walkinshaw was far from a slouch, boasting 180kW from its 5.0-litre V8

The VL Walkinshaw being auctioned with its polarising body kit and trademark Panorama Silver paintwork is a very original two-owner car with only 132,744km on its odometer.

It was first registered in Queensland in June 1989 and is being sold with the Victorian custom number plates HSV-516. Given its important place in Commodore and HSV history, coupled with its presentation, it is expected to sell in the $75.000- $85,000 range.

This 1988 VL Group A ‘Brock’ Commodore that has only three owner from new is expected to sell in the $65.000 to $75.000 range.

The 1988 VL Group A in the auction has travelled even less – 46.000km – and is a three owner car that has been garaged all its life. Shannons say the SS is unmarked and presents almost like a new car, while its trim looks like no one has ever sat on the rear seats.

Because of its low kilometres, ‘Brock’ heritage and proven collectability, it is expected to sell in the $65.000 to $75.000 range.

The Alpine White 1984 VK Brock SS Sedan in the auction is showing just over 33.000km on its odometer and presents in very nice, original condition.

It is being offered with all of its HDT paperwork, several previous registration papers, a fat receipt file and its original owner's manual.  

Because of its low kilometres travelled, provenance and collectability, it is expected to sell in the $40,000 to $50,000 range on February 27.

Other great performance Holdens in the auction are a brace of 1968 Monaro GTS models – a very collectible HK GTS 327 ’Bathurst’ coupe presented in the model’s trademark Warwick Yellow ($200,000-$230,000) and an equally well-presented silver Mink Monaro GTS 186S ($70,000-$80,000)

Two interesting HQ Holdens are also in the auction – a striking orange 1973 Holden HQ Monaro GTS 5Lt 'Manual' Sedan ($35,000-$45,000) and a 1971 HQ Sedan six-cylinder race car that is being offered with ‘no reserve, with proceeds being donated to the Good Friday Appeal.

The other Holdens in the auction include a stunning 1962 EK Special Sedan fitted with a number of period accessories and presented in show condition ($35,000-$45,000).

A nicely presented 1977 HJ 4.2 litre Utility ($8,000-$12,000) and a very original 1979 Holden UC Torana SL Sedan ($6,000-$8,000), are both being offered with ‘no reserve’.
