• 30 special numerical B&W plates – 11 with ‘no reserve’

• 13 sought-after three-digit plates

• Consecutive numbers ‘104’, ‘105’ & ‘106’

Anyone thinking of investing in a black and white Victorian Heritage numeric number plate should be online, on the phone, or at the Melbourne Exhibition Building for Shannons Rare Number Plate Auction in conjunction with Motorclassica from 7pm this Saturday, October 13.

Thirty special numbers are going under the hammer – 11 with ‘no reserve’ – with the absolute highlight for collectors being the consecutive Heritage plates ‘104’, ‘105’ and ‘106’.

The trio is being put to auction by the same enthusiast family and each is expected conservatively to bring $200,000-$280,000, although the plate ‘101’ sold for a Victorian auction record $510,000 at Shannons Autumn Classic Auction back in April this year.

It’s also possible that all three plates might be purchased by the same enthusiast for family vehicles, or perhaps as an investment for children or grand-children.

The Victorian Heritage number plates ‘911’ is expected to attract swarms of Porsche enthusiasts to Shannons Rare Number Plate Auction at Motorclassica on Saturday (October 13), where it is expected to sell in the $320,000-$400,000 range.

Of course for Porsche enthusiasts, the big news is the hallowed number plate ‘911’ that is expected to sell in the $300,000-$400,000 range. Meanwhile, ‘130’, the racing number that actor James Dean wore on his famous 550, is slated to sell for $180,000-$260,000; ‘906’ recalling the famous Porsche sports-racing cars of the 1960s, could make $80,000-$120,000 and ’58.356’ should appeal to Porsche 356 owner at its ‘no reserve' guiding range of $15,000-$25,000.

The number plate ‘130’ that replicates the racing number that actor James Dean wore on his famous Porsche 550 Spyder, is slated to sell for $180,000-$260,000.

There are also some great number combinations going under the hammer. They include:

• the 6-digit ‘102.102’ and ‘100.700’ (both ‘no reserve’ - $10,000-$15,000);

• the 5-digit ’44.111’ and '88.999' (both ‘no reserve - $15,000-$25,000);

• the 4-digit ‘5.000’ ($60,000-$70,000), ‘4.343’ ($40,000-$60,000), plus ‘2.277’ and ‘5.588’ (both $30,000-$50,000);

• And for those who live in the blue-chip Melbourne suburb of Toorak, there is its post-code ‘3.142’ on a plate ($30,000-$50,000).

Motorclassica 2018 will be held at the Royal Exhibition Building from 12-14 October.
