With winter biting hard, Shannons are rolling out some heart-warming and affordable Euro classics at its Melbourne Winter auction on July 11.

Feel good German collectibles going under the hammer include two uber-stylish early 1960s coupes – a 1960 Borgward Isabella TS and a 1961 Series I Volkswagen Karmann Ghia – both in great driveable condition.

Meanwhile from France there is a chic and beautifully presented 1977 Citroen GS Pallas Saloon that temptingly is being offered with ‘no reserve’.

This elegant 1960 Borgward Isabella TS Coupe that has only been driven on weekends by its enthusiast owner since 2003 is expected to sell in the $16,000-$20,000 range.

The elegant Isabella coupe, which has been refurbished mechanically and cosmetically, has been in the present ownership since 2003 and only ever driven on weekends. It is being sold with an extensive list of spare parts, with Shannons expecting this now rarely seen classic to sell in the $16,000-$20,000 range.

This Australian-delivered right hand drive 1961 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Coupe that spent 54 years continuously registered in Queensland is expected to sell in the $30,000- $34,000 range.

Even more interesting to many Australian enthusiasts will be an Australian-delivered right hand drive 1961 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Coupe that spent 54 years continuously registered in Queensland before passing to the Victorian vendor in December last year.

The Karmann Ghia was repainted in its rare original colours of two-tone black on cream in 1998 and still presents well according to Shannons, who say its original grey and cream interior has a lovely patina, with its trim and carpets all exceptionally well preserved.

This stylish and affordable European sports coupe is expected to sell in the $30,000- $34,000 range.

This stunning 1977 Citroen GS Pallas that is regarded as perhaps Australia’s finest example of the 1971 European Car of the Year is expected to sell for $8,000-$12,000 when it is offered with ‘no reserve'.

The stunning Citroen GS Pallas being auctioned on July 11 is regarded by the Citroen Club members who have assisted in its extensive mechanical and cosmetic refurbishment as one of the finest GS models in Australia.

The GS with its aerodynamic bodywork, horizontally-opposed and air-cooled four cylinder engine, front wheel drive and self-levelling hydro-pneumatic suspension, was the darling of Europe when launched at the 1970 Paris Salon, proving that not all small cars had to be conventional and boring and was suitably rewarded with the European Car of the Year award the following year.

This top-spec 1977-model Pallas model being auctioned presents beautifully, with Shannons saying it will make an ideal classic or club car.  Because of its overall condition, it is conservatively expected to sell in the $8,000-$12,000 range.

Another interesting Euro classics in the July 11 Melbourne auction is a ‘no reserve’ 1958 Volkswagen ‘Beetle’ Sedan that is expected to bring $7,000-$10,000 because of the increasing collectability of all early VW models.
