Design to Driveway - Volume 3 and Volume 4 Now on Sale
- 03 June 2019
Design to Driveway is a series of strictly limited edition books that celebrate Australia’s rich automotive design heritage.
Volumes 1 and 2 have sold out and now Shannons are releasing volumes 3 and 4. These are the final volumes planned for release at this stage.
Combining many rare and never-before-seen factory images of styling proposals and interviews with designers, these hard cover books trace the styling evolution of some of Australia’s most popular cars of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s - from first sketches through to final product.
The demise of Australian manufacturing marked a significant and heartfelt milestone in our local automotive history.
Shannons have commissioned the Design to Driveway series of books as part of their ongoing contribution to the Australian motoring enthusiast community.
This fascinating journey reveals why our Aussie cars look the way they do and what the possible alternatives might have been.
Talented designers and product planners share their priceless memories of their time in Australian styling studios including - Jack Telnack, Phil Zmood, David M. Ford, Leo Pruneau, John Schinella, Peter Nankervis and the late Brian Rossi.
The third volume of Design to Driveway features the development of the FC/FE Holden, XK Falcon, LC/LJ Torana, HJ Kingswood and Statesman and Ford’s LTD. Plus, there’s the amazing story and photos of Holden’s never released HV sedan.
Holden’s retired Design Director Leo Pruneau has written the Foreword to volume three.
Volume four showcases the development of the EJ, EH and HD Holdens (including the never released EF - the source of the HD’s shape - the top secret Solaris concept car), the XW Falcon, ZC Fairlane and Chrysler’s VK/CM Valiant.
David M. Ford, who was Ford Australia’s Chief Engineer and Product Planning Manager, has written the Foreword for volume four.
The Design to Driveway series of books are researched and authored by Retroautos editor, David Burrell, and proudly commissioned by Shannons.
Restricted to 750 individually numbered copies, these books will never be re-printed, making them highly sought after by enthusiasts of our Aussie car history.
