• Time-warp VW Kombi Caravanette

• Restored Ford and Holden ‘tradies’

• ‘No Reserve’ Toyota Landcruiser BJ42 SWB

With classic commercial vehicles currently bringing record prices around the world, Shannons have a range to excite collectors at Monday’s (May 30) Late Autumn Classic Auction in Sydney.

This cleverly-designed 1958 VW Kombi Caravanette with many original features is expected to sell in the $40,000-$50,000 range

VW Kombi collectors have already shown considerable interest in the right hand drive 1958 Split Window Kombi with a Campervan Conversion by Australia’s Lanock Motors.

Billed as ‘a luxury holiday home on wheels’, the cleverly-designed Caravanette as it was known made use of every millimetre of space in the Kombi and incorporated a dining area that converted into a sleeping compartment, a cooking area, various cupboards and storage areas, an ice refrigerator and a water tank – things that are expected on mobile homes today but were novelties in the late 1950s.

The VW was repainted by its current owners in period green on white in 2014, while major mechanical upgrades were carried out at the same time to the vehicle’s front end and brakes, while a new all-synchromesh gearbox was fitted in early 2015.

Adding to its collectability, virtually all the original camping equipment remains intact. Based on the high prices being achieved worldwide for VW commercial vehicles, Shannons conservatively expect this Caravanette to sell in the $40,000-$50,000 range.

This nicely-restored 1961 Holden EK Panel Van fitted with period NASCO accessories and coming from long-term ownership is expected to sell in the $26,000-$32,000 range

A nicely-restored 1961 Holden EK Panel Van fitted with period NASCO accessories that has had only had two owners from new is also expected to be in demand amongst collectors of Australian-made commercials.

Purchased by the vendor from the original long-term owner, this beautifully presented EK has been restored extensively, including rust repairs and a full overhaul of all mechanical systems. Indicative of its provenance and condition, it is expected to sell in the $26,000-$32,000 range.

This Australian-delivered right hand drive 1990 Ford F150 XLT Utility rebuilt from the ground up with a big-block 460-cid V8 is expected to sell with ‘no reserve’ for $20,000-$25,000.

Also interesting to collectors is an Australian-delivered right hand drive 1990 Ford F150 XLT Utility that has been rebuilt from the ground up and upgraded with a big-block 460-cid V8, a new computer system and twin long range fuel tanks.

Appealingly, this classic workhorse is being offered with ‘no reserve’ with Shannons expecting it to sell for $20,000-$25,000.

This sought-after short wheelbase Toyota Landcruiser BJ42 diesel in great condition is expected to sell with ‘no reserve’ in the $15,000-$20,000 range.

Finally for 4WD enthusiasts, Shannons have a sought-after 1980 model Short Wheelbase Toyota Landcruiser BJ42 diesel.

As the last of the BJ42 model, with a good history and in great condition, Shannons believe this Landcruiser would make an ideal and affordable collectors’ vehicle and expect it to sell with ‘no reserve’ in the $15,000-$20,000 range.
