Classic car and motorcycle bargain hunters are looking forward to the Shannons Sydney winter auction on August 29, in which nearly one quarter of the 26 cars and motorcycles will be offered with ‘no reserve’.
The highlight of the ‘no reserve’ cars for many bidders will be a one-owner
1970 HG GTS Monaro 253 V8 – still in its distinctive Kashmir White with black stripes, and matching black and white Houndstooth upholstery.
This one-owner 1970 HG GTS Monaro 253 V8 with 243,000km on its odometer is expected to sell with ‘no reserve’ for $55,000 - $65,000 at Shannons Sydney Winter Auction on August 29.
This amazingly well-preserved Canberra-delivered Monaro shows 243,000km on its odometer, which is believed to be genuine, as the vehicle presents as a rare survivor that ticks all the boxes for collectors.
Fitted with period-correct under-dash air conditioning and with its original delivery books and an extensive receipt file, the car remains in lovely ‘time-warp’ condition throughout according to Shannons, who expect it to sell in the $55,000 - $65,000 range.
This highly desirable 1967 Volkswagen 'Split Window' Microbus is expected to sell with ‘no reserve’ in the $35,000 - $45,000 range at Shannons Sydney Winter Auction on August 29.
Believed to have been an original Australia-assembled right-hand drive vehicle before spending time in Japan, the VW presents well with retrimmed upholstery and some recent mechanical refurbishment. Shannons predicting it will be in high demand in the $35,000 - $45,000 range.
There is also an original factory right-hand drive
1961 Jaguar MkII 3.8 Saloon fitted with the optional Borg Warner automatic transmission and air conditioning that is understood to be an original, Australian-delivered car once owned by Sydney radio presenter Doug Mulray ($20,000-$24,000).
Meanwhile, from Germany comes a rare and very collectible
1988 BMW-Alpina C2 2.7 E30 convertible offering better than M3 performance with greater exclusivity at its estimated $15,000-$20,000 selling price.
This rare and well-preserved 1954 Fiat 500 Topolino Belvedere Wagon is expected to sell with ‘no reserve’ for $16,000 - $22,000 at Shannons Sydney Winter Auction on August 29.
Classic four-wheel-drive collectors will be interested in the ex-British Army
1955 Austin Champ 'Military Jeep' that has undergone some refurbishment recently by a recognised Champ specialist ($12,000-$16,000), while small Ford collectors will be bidding for the
1969 Ford Cortina 440 Sedan that is expected to bring $7,000-$10,000, making it a very affordable and useable club car.
Finally, for Corvette collectors there is a right-hand-drive, limited-edition
1978 C3 'Pace Car Edition' coupe that is understood to have been imported to Australia by a US Embassy employee some time before 1981. Fitted with the high-performance L82 small-block V8 engine and showing only 57,705 miles on its odometer, it is expected to bring a smile to the face of a muscle car enthusiast at its guiding range of $25,000 - $35,000 in the August 29 auction.
This limited-edition 1978 Chevrolet Corvette C3 'Pace Car Edition' coupe is expected to sell with ‘no reserve’ for $12,000-$16,000 at Shannons Sydney Winter Auction on August 29.
There are also six ‘no reserve’ Classic motorcycles in the auction, headed by a rare, two-stroke
1952 Italian Rumi 125cc ($8,000-$10,000), with the others including a
circa-1950 Gilera 150cc Sport, a
circa-1965 Honda Dream 305cc (both $5,000-$7,000) and a
circa-1970 Triumph Trophy 650cc ($7,000-$9,000).
