Rosebud’s long history as a summer holiday destination makes it the
perfect place to revive the fun-filled 50s and 60s lifestyle, via the
Rosebud Foreshore Rockfest.
Rockfest is held across four days from 14 to 17 November 2019
and is now in its fourth year. The event is a fun celebration of all
things groovy; cool cars, hot bands, dances, shows, retro clothing
markets and a pin-up contest.
It's kicking off with Rock'n'Trivia on Thursday to get you
warmed up for the main event. Think you know your rock and roll
history? Get a group together and join in the fun!
The official launch is on Friday evening under the Big-Top,
located on the Rosebud Carnival site. Special guest performer Normie
Rowe & The Playboys is one of many specialising in those sonorous
sounds of the 50s and 60s. The Rockfest Marquee has live bands and
dancing from Friday night all the way through to Sunday afternoon!
Friday night's Elvis Beach Party on the Villiage Green kickes
off with a 14-piece Elvis Big Band complete with hula dancers,
followed by a double screening of Elvis movies at the outdoor cinema –
Girls Girls Girls and Viva Las Vegas. Meet, greet and get your photo
taken with Rosebud's own local Elvis (Mike Cole, Always Elvis).
On Saturday morning, the Rosebud town centre comes alive with
hot rods, muscle cars, vintage caravan displays, 50s bands and
street-jiving. At Memorial Hall, there’ll be dance classes hosted by
the Peninsula School of Dance, including Kids Dance Classes for
children aged 8-15 years, in the styles of Rock 'n' Roll and Lindy Hop/Swing.
The 1960’s was a golden era for kids toys; this year, Retro
Party Games at the Village Green will take you back to your childhood
memories with range of vintage games for your or your kids (or your
grandkids) to enjoy – with great prizes to win! (Gold coin donation –
all proceeds are donated to the Rosebud Toy Library).
The Beach Party starts late Saturday afternoon and runs into
the evening, featuring moore rock and more roll from Australia’s
coolest bands.
Sunday brings the Creative Custom Cars Classic Car Show, with
hundreds of pre-1975s, hot rods, motorbikes and vintage caravans on
show, rockabilly bands on stage and for fashionistas, a vintage
clothing and ‘Pin Up’ contest.
The Rosebud Primary School has a wonderful fresh food market on
Sunday from 8am, also with great local music. There’ll be rock’n’roll,
retro market stalls, carnival rides and food trucks all weekend! All
events will conclude by 5pm on Sunday.
