History
I purchased this car as a standard Triumph TR7 and over the years have developed the car into a race car and I compete regularly in iRace and AASA events. I’m really into the mental side of driving, driving at the limit, as such I brought Ross Bentley to Australia in 2011 to do some Speed Secrets Seminars. Ross is regarded as one of, if not the best race driver coach in the world.
Modifications
Several iterations of suspension and brakes, although still running the standard rear drums. The diff has been converted to limited slip by my good mate Ian Ramsey who makes his own Spider Grip Limited Slip Diff. I uprated the original TR7 4 cylinder engine to a 16 Valve Dolomite Sprint engine and from there went to the Rover V8. Over the last 4 years I’ve been cobbling together a 3.9 litre race engine which - if it holds together should be very impressive. The current V8 develops just 149HP at the rear wheels yet I am competitive with cars with 3x the power.
The Dolomite Sprint engine developed 145HP but the V8 has more torque. The new engine will feature a rare twin throttle plenum of which only 500 were made to homologate the Walkinshaw Rover SD1s which won the European Touring Car Championship. I chose this to keep it "of the period" to a degree. All the engine work has been done by Frank at Racetech Automotives, he takes a lot of care and thought into what he does - now I just have to assemble the thing! Keep Posted!
