History
My first car, shared with my older brother. Bought for £5/-/- by our father in 1959 for me to learn to drive on and both of us to work out how to fix it. Great for growing up on a farm in Western Victoria. Never registered, but a somewhat cantankerous old girl that could sometimes be cajoled into life. Perfect for feeding out sheep in the drought (running boards were the go) and the dogs loved it as much as we did. I was the one who drove it into 'soft' ground which took two days to get it out as it shared a battery with our other farm car, a 1938 Chev. Given away in 1966 to someone who assured us he was going to restore it, but we never heard again. Older cars were never valued like they are now.
I still have the Victorian log-book, dating from 1933. There were 3 or 4 owners until 1959. It must have been laid up during the war, as it was given a 1945 rego number HH-459
The chassis and engine were made in the US by Hudson and the 4 Door Tourer body was (I think) a Smith and Waddington made in Sydney.
Modifications
Originally grey with black guards, we painted (by hand) the body bright red with shiny black guards. As there was no upholstery to speak of, of we cleaned Pivot super bags and used those - suitable for the most fastidious Border Collies and Kelpies.....
