CFMoto’s V-Night 150 looks classy, modern and sporty. The entry-level beauty is powered by a willing 150cc four-stroke single that’s liquid cooled. The pretty little package can be yours for only $2690 (plus ORC).

I was impressed by the standard of fit and finish. Component quality looks excellent, particularly the alloy castings like the rider and pillion ’peg supports. Plastics are neat. Paintwork looks deep and lustrous. Even the vinyl seat cover is a quality affair.

Instruments are modern and easy to read, combining an analogue tacho with a digi display for speed and other readouts, including a gear indicator.

Its clever ergonomic design accommodates my bulk comfortably while being a no-brainer for younger, smaller riders. Its low 129kg dry weight is a nice match for its size, making it easy to handle whether wheeling it out of the shed or riding it.

The carby-fed engine is an easy starter that seems to shun use of its handlebar-mounted choke control, even on cold mornings. There are no vibes.

With just over 9kW (12hp) it’s not as quick as its sportsbike styling would suggest, but it’s fine for an entry-level bike. Still, there’s enough on tap to get you off the mark reasonably smartly and it’s a good match overall for the tintops on the daily commute.

Keeping the engine spinning in its productive 4500rpm to 7500rpm rev range requires quite a bit of use of the sweet-shifting little six-speed gearbox. A lighter clutch action would be an improvement, though.

The single front brake disc has decent power and it’s progressive. The rear is effective but spongy. Perhaps it needed a bleed.

The bike’s handling is great and its impressive suspension coped well with my bulk, never bottoming over bumps and potholes.

On the freeway it spins along happily enough at about 7800rpm in top gear for an indicated 100km/h. While it would probably top out close to120km/h, it feels a little stressed over 8000rpm.

Niggles? The sidestand’s an inch too short – the bike leans excessively when you park it. And the green ‘lights-on’ indicator on the dash is too bright at night.

Overall I enjoyed CFMoto’s gorgeous tiddler – it’s a fun ride and a lot of bike for the money.
