Paul Moorhouse began his career as an apprentice at Rolls-Royce in Crewe but decided he’d like to create his own sports car. His earliest efforts were inspired by 1930s Alfa Romeos. When he went public with the Marlin in 1979, one of two examples he had built had already served five years as his daily transport.

The Marlin chassis was designed to facilitate the use of Triumph (Herald, Vitesse, Spitfire, GT6) running gear, including the independent rear suspension from later models.

The flat panels were aluminum with fiberglass moulded sections. Light and nimble, the Marlin was built around a study box-section chassis with a rollover bar integrated in the windscreen frame.

Then in time for a 1984 release, Moorhouse designed a car some 10 per cent bigger for the use of Cortina Mark III/Mark IV running gear. This was the Marlin Berlinetta. No luxuries were spared, including wind-up windows, a lockable boot and a curved windscreen!
