MV Agusta’s Brutale was originally designed by Massimo Tamburini around a version of the the F4 liquid-cooled inline four derived from Ferrari’s Formula One engine used in 1990-1992.  Initially launched as the 750S, a larger 910cc version appeared in 2005 and the Brutale family continued to evolve with a range of different capacities and special editions over the next decade.  Following MV’s takeover by Harley-Davidson and a fresh injection of capital, a redesigned model was introduced in late 2009 centred around a compact new frame design with a longer swingarm, new 50mm Marzocchi forks, four-pot caliper Brembo brakes and all-new die-cast wheels.  A more radical shift took place when the Brutale’s third generation arrived in 2011, with the move to a reverse crankshaft triple developing similar power but more torque at lower revs.  The more compact engine meant the frame was further reduced in size, while the 43mm Marzocchi ‘upside-down’ forks, Sachs rear shock absorber and Brembo brakes from the F3 were adopted at the same time.  The Brutale 675 was joined by the larger capacity 800 in 2013, producing a healthy 125bhp and ABS was available from the following year.  The fastest version yet, the Brutale 800 RR appeared in 2015 with a less restrictive exhaust, 50mm throttle bodies, a new airbox and twin fuel injectors per cylinder to raise power to 140bhp.  Further improvements for 2018 included a new EAS 2.0 quickshifter, lighter rims and the engine was remapped to broaden the Brutale’s power band.  In 2019 Formula One World Champion driver Lewis Hamilton leant his name to a limited edition 800 RR with unique styling touches inspired by his own bike.  Novel details include the candy white TIG-welded hand-made CroMo trellis frame, carbon fibre fairing and LCD housing, CNC machined tank cap, engine oil filler cap, clutch cover and alternator guard and special Pearl Shock Red and Metallic Black Cynosure finish.  Ergal aluminium brake levers, handlebars and fuel filler cap are complemented by anodized red and black on the fork tubes and rear shock.  The forged alloy wheels are finished in Candy Red, the leather/Alcantara saddle continues the red/black theme.  Limited to just 144 examples, each individually numbered bike features Hamilton’s number ‘44’.
