The final Australian Mini apart from the Moke, the 1275 LS was a highly specified version combining the larger engine with front disc brakes and 12-inch wheels, higher equipment levels, unique badging and pinstriping.  Intended as a regular production model, the 1275 LS’s production life was severely curtailed and an estimated 800-900 were built between July 1978 and October 1978.  The 1275 LS was available in either Hi-Ho Silver with red velour cloth seats (backed in black vinyl) or Nugget Gold with brown velour cloth (with cream vinyl backing), both normally seen with black side stripes and silver painted wheels.  Other features include tinted window glass and rear window demister, an LS three-spoke Formula GT steering wheel and comprehensive instrumentation, plus a radio.  Sourced fully built from the UK, the 1275cc engine was rated at 59 bhp and distinguished by silver rocker covers, while the front brakes (with booster) boasted larger 8.4-inch diameter discs than those found in the Cooper S.  Optional features included fog lamps, rear window louvres, a sunroof or vinyl roof.  Billed as “Saving the best till last” in Leyland’s promotional material of the day, the 1275 LS has gone on to become one of the most collectible Australian Minis but low mileage examples like the car offered here rarely come up for sale.
