Austin founded its success in the 1920s and 1930s on the Baby 7, but it also made commercial vehicles, one of which was the Austin 301, which was the copy of the more common Morris Commercial LC5. The Morris LC range had its origins in the pre-war LC 25/30 cwt vans and trucks which, after the merger between Morris and Austin in 1952, saw the birth of the LC4. By the mid- ‘50s that had become the LC5, only available as a 30-cwt truck. Both Morris and Austin versions (the only difference was the badges) had the Austin A70 car engine, a four-cylinder 2199cc petrol engine which drove through a four-speed manual gearbox. Joined in 1954 by an LC05 diesel version, the LC5 continued in production until 1960, when it was replaced by the entry-level versions of the all-new FG truck.
