Vehicle Report

Porsche’s 911 GT2 is its ultimate high-performance model. Built initially between 1993 and 2009, the GT2 was reintroduced in 2010 as the GT2 RS. It is based on the 911 Turbo, and uses a similar twin-turbocharged engine, but features numerous upgrades including to the engine, larger brakes, and more track-oriented suspension calibration. The GT2 RS is significantly lighter than the Turbo due to its use of rear-wheel-drive instead of the all-wheel-drive system, its use of lightweight body materials plus the reduction or removal of interior trim. The current-generation 991 model GT2 RS was officially launched at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed. It is powered by a 3.8 litre twin-turbocharged flat-six engine developing 515 kW at 7000 rpm and 750 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful production 911 ever built. Unlike previous GT2 versions, the 991 GT2 RS is fitted with a seven-speed PDK transmission to handle the massive torque and performance, with Porsche claiming that it will accelerate from 0-97 km/h (0-60 mph) in 2.7 seconds, and has a top speed of 340 km/h. It has a roof made of magnesium, front bonnet, front and rear wings, and boot lid made of carbonfibre, front and rear apron made of lightweight polyurethane, rear and side windows made of polycarbonate and an exhaust system made of titanium. A 1000-unit production run of the GT2 RS was scheduled, however four units were lost in transit to Brazil when the ship Grande America sunk, so manufacturing was restarted to produce the four cars lost. In Australia, the ultra-rare 991-model GT2 RS cost more than $400,000, making this GT2 RS the most expensive and fastest model in the 911 lineup.
