Styled for Bertone by a young Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Alfa Romeo 105-series coupe is the classic Italian GT of the 1960s - elegant, understated and very stylish, both inside and out.  The beauty is more than just skin deep, with the twin-cam all-alloy engine regarded as one of the classic designs, delivering seamless power from its relatively small capacity and was, thanks to a perfectly matched five-speed gearbox, absolutely delightful to drive.  The original Giulia Sprint GT of 1963 gave way to the 1750 GTV in 1968, the increase in capacity to almost 1.8-litres resulting in a useful increase in power and torque and noticeably brisker acceleration.  Externally, the 1750 was distinguished by the quad headlamps and black panel with just a single chrome bar, while inside the seats were revised and the dashboard completely redesigned, with the speedo and rev counter housed in two distinct binnacles and secondary instruments sitting in a centre console.  The 105-series has long been regarded as perhaps the best all round classic Alfa Romeo ever made and continuing demand for good cars has kept values relatively strong.  But nobody should buy one of these Alfas purely as an investment - the 1750 GTV is one of the all-time great driver’s cars and just begs to be shown the nearest stretch of winding road...
